I've wondered the same thing after seeing this happen more frequently lately. Heres the low down Google is constantly changing it's algorithms. At any given time Google will use a certain percentage of searchers as beta testers of these changes. You won't know when or who is beta testing these changes. The number I have heard is 40% pct of all users are beta testing at any given time. So if you are going over SERP results with someone and you are at different locations, there's a good chance one of you is assisting Google and your results will vary slightly.
