CNN - North Korea rejects findings, threatens war

Here's what you do. Everyone play nice. Tell NK that everyone is
playing nice. If something happens again there will be no "talks",
just action.

I'm tired of these guys always threatening. WTF are they gonna do with
thier starving army? Watch us eat?

Call thier bluff... SOON.

Pure Imagination

I was sitting by the pool with my wife the other day just noodling
around on the guitar and ended up playing this medley. Was driving me
crazy trying to figure out what it was. The wife figured it out.

Now I'm fixated on giving this the "godsmack" treatment.

June 2, 2010

1. Toyota Reports May Sales Gain, Retains Retail Sales Crown

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) today reported sales of 162,813 vehicles in May, up 6.7 percent over the same month a year ago on a daily selling rate and unadjusted raw volume basis.

"Memorial Day weekend kicked off the summer selling season with a bang, resulting in our best-selling weekend of the year," said Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations. "As Toyota maintains its leadership position as the number one retail brand in the industry for the third consecutive month, we look forward to building this momentum as we work hard to exceed our customers’ expectations for quality, safety, reliability and service."

The Toyota Division posted May sales of 140,597 vehicles, a 3.6 percent increase over the same period last year. The Lexus Division reported May sales of 22,216 vehicles, a 31.3 percent increase.

2. Two More Toyota Vehicles Earn 2010 ‘Top Safety Pick’ Award

Based in part on the new rollover test results of midsize SUVs, the 2010 Toyota Highlander and Venza have been designated "Top Safety Picks" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the institute announced today. Toyota now has more "Top Safety Pick" vehicles this year than any other manufacturer.

To achieve this designation, a vehicle has to earn the top rating of "good" for occupant protection in the institute’s front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. It also has to have electronic stability control.

The institute tested 12 midsize SUVs of various brands. Six, including Highlander and Venza (the only Toyotas evaluated), earned the top rating of "good" for rollover protection, one was rated "acceptable" and five others received the second lowest rating of "marginal."

In its press release, the institute said, "New test results show that some automakers are doing a good job of designing vehicle roofs that perform much better than current federal rollover standards require."

Highlander and Venza join five other Toyota and Lexus vehicles that have earned the "Top Safety Pick" designation based in part on the new rollover test results. On May 25, the institute announced that the 2011 Toyota Avalon and Sienna and 2010 Lexus RX had earned the designation. The 2010 Toyota Corolla and Scion xB were designated "Top Safety Picks" in March.

4. Toyota Shifting Highlander Production from Japan to Indiana

Toyota confirmed Tuesday that the company’s assembly plant in Princeton, Ind., will become the sole source of non-hybrid Highlander SUVs for North America. "This is part of our continuing trend to build more product where we sell," Toyota spokesperson Paul Nolasco told Automotive News.

While Toyota has been producing the Highlander at the Indiana plant since October 2009, the company has continued importing units made at a plant in Kyushu, Japan. The Kyushu plant will continue to produce hybrid Highlanders and Highlanders bound for Australia, according to Nolasco.

A timetable for moving production hasn’t been determined, Toyota spokesperson Mike Goss told the Wall Street Journal.

Toyota Fast Facts: It’s Not About Being the Largest, It’s About Being the Best, Says Akio Toyoda

June 1, 2010

This is Toyota Fast Facts, an update on breaking news, our recent recalls and the work we are doing to make things right for our customers.

For additional information and breaking news, please visit www.toyotanewsroom.com

1. It’s Not About Being the Largest, It’s About Being the Best, Says Akio Toyoda

"I don't want to be the largest company in the world. I want to be the best," TMC President Akio Toyoda told Automotive News in an interview published Monday.

This is a viewpoint, the article points out, that was shaped by Toyoda’s training as an advanced test driver – and by his work over the years with Hiromu Naruse, Toyota’s legendary master test driver. "[Naruse] told me, ‘I don't want to hear what you have to say about cars until you really know how to drive one,’" Toyoda said.

By getting behind the wheel and scrutinizing the product, Automotive News points out that Toyoda has continued to live out one of the company’s guiding principles – "Genchi Genbutsu" or "go and see for yourself." It also notes that his firsthand understanding of Toyota’s vehicles and their boundaries has had a direct impact on his management of Toyota, in which he has pushed for a more hands-on, product-focused approach throughout the company and a continuing effort to make vehicles that are more "fun to drive."

At the end of the day, Toyoda notes, the company’s ongoing success lies in the continued excellence of its cars and trucks. "I’ve been called media-shy, and that’s not going to change," Toyoda said. "Here’s why: The main actor is the vehicle."

2. Toyota Launches New Safety Ads

Toyota today began running a new series of advertisements focused on vehicle safety in major daily newspapers and magazines, online and on outdoor billboards. The new series of ads highlights the company’s Star Safety System and SMART teams as well as the more than $1 million an hour we are currently spending to enhance the safety and technology of our vehicles. Television ads are expected to follow.

3. Judge Gives Toyota 30 Days to Produce Documents on Acceleration Issues

A federal judge in Santa Ana, Calif., has given Toyota Motor Corporation 30 days to turn over documents sought by attorneys in the federal personal-injury and class-action consumer claims against Toyota involving the company’s recalls related to unintended acceleration complaints, Reuters reported.

In his order Friday, U.S. District Court Judge James Selna, who is presiding over the consolidated federal court lawsuits filed against Toyota, directed the automaker to turn over within 30 days any English-language documents it does not consider privileged, such as those involving communications with its attorneys. Selna gave Toyota 60 days to produce Japanese-language documents, which would require translation.

Plaintiffs’ attorneys were seeking access to approximately 125,000 pages of internal Toyota documents that the automaker had already provided to congressional committees and federal auto safety regulators, the wire service said.

Lawyers for Toyota had argued turning over such documents at this stage in the proceedings would be premature and would violate the rules of pretrial discovery, the process during which the litigants are required to share information with each other.

The next hearing before Selna is June 23.
